Metabolomics-guided analysis of isocoumarin production by Streptomyces species MBT76 and biotransformation of flavonoids and phenylpropanoids.

Actinomycetes produce the majority of the antibiotics currently in clinical use. The efficiency of antibiotic production is affected by multiple factors such as nutrients, pH, temperature and growth phase. Finding the optimal harvesting time is crucial for successful isolation of the desired bioactive metabolites from actinomycetes, but for this conventional chemical analysis has limitations due to the metabolic complexity. This study explores the utility of NMR-based metabolomics for (1) optimizing fermentation time for the production of known and/or unknown bioactive compounds produced by actinomycetes; (2) elucidating the biosynthetic pathway for microbial natural products; and (3) facilitating the biotransformation of nature-abundant chemicals.

Complete genome sequence of Pseudomonas syringae pv. lapsa strain ATCC 10859, isolated from infected wheat.

Pseudomonas syringae pv. lapsa is a pathovar of Pseudomonas syringae that can infect wheat. The complete genome of P. syringae pv. lapsa strain ATCC 10859 contains a 5,918,899-bp circular chromosome with 4,973 coding sequences, 16 rRNAs, 69 tRNAs, and an average GC content of 59.13%. Complete genome sequence of Pseudomonas azotoformans S4, a potential biocontrol bacterium.

Pseudomonas azotoformans is a Gram-negative bacterium and infects cereal grains, especially rice. P. azotoformans S4 from soil sample derived from Lijiang, Yunnan Province, China, appeared to be strong inhibitory activity against Fusarium fujikurio, a serious rice fungal pathogen. Here, we present the complete genome of P. azotoformans S4, which consists of 6,859,618bp with a circle chromosome, 5991 coding DNA sequences, 70 tRNA and 19 rRNA. Complete genome sequence of Pseudoalteromonas rubra SCSIO 6842, harboring a putative conjugative plasmid pMBL6842.

Pseudoalteromonas is a genus of Gram-negative and is ubiquitously distributed in the ocean. Many Pseudoalteromonas species are capable of producing pigments, which can serve as an alternative source to replace synthetic pigments used in the food industry. Prodigiosins belong to a family of secondary metabolite characterized by a common pyrrolyl pyrromethane skeleton, and have been successfully applied to yogurt, milk and carbonated drinks as substitutes for synthetic additives. The strain Pseudoalteromonas rubra SCSIO 6842 can produce cycloprodigiosin and harbors a conjugative plasmid. Here we report the complete genome of P. rubra SCSIO 6842 for a better understanding of the molecular basis of cycloprodigiosin production and regulation. Copyright © 2016 Elsevier B.V. Complete genome sequence of antibiotic and anticancer agent violacein producing Massilia sp. strain NR 4-1.

Massilia sp. NR 4-1 was a violacein producing strain newly isolated from topsoil under nutmeg tree, Torreya nucifera in Korean national monument Bijarim Forest. Violacein is a novel class of drug exhibiting anticancer and antibiotic activities originated from l-tryptophan. Here, we present the complete genome of Massilia sp. strain NR 4-1 of 6,361,416bp and total 5285 coding sequences (CDSs) including a complete violacein biosynthesis pathway, vioABCDE. Complete genome sequence of Burkholderia sp. strain PAMC28687, a potential octopine-utilizing bacterium isolated from Antarctica lichen.

We report the complete genome sequence of Burkholderia sp. PAMC28687, which was isolated from the Antarctica lichen Useea sp., for better understanding of its catabolic traits in utilizing octopine as a source of carbon/nitrogen between Burkholderia and lichen. Complete genome sequence of Streptococcus thermophilus MN-BM-A01, a strain with high exopolysaccharides production.

Streptococcus thermophilus MN-BM-A01 (ST MN-BM-A01) (CGMCC No. 11383) was a strain isolated from Yogurt Block in Gansu, China. The yogurt fermented with this strain has good flavor, acidity, and viscosity. Moreover, ST MN-BM-A01 could produce a high level of EPS which can confer the yogurt with improved rheological properties. We reported the complete genome sequence of ST MN-BM-A01 that contains 1,876,516bp encoding 1704 coding sequences (CDSs), 67 tRNA genes and 6 rRNA operons. Complete genome sequence of Enterococcus faecalis LD33, a bacteriocin-producing strain.

Enterococcus faecalis LD33 strain was originally isolated from traditional naturally fermented cream in Inner Mongolia of China. Its complete genome sequence was carried out using the Illumina Hiseq and the PacBio RSII platform. The genome only has a circular chromosome and a GC content of 37.58%. Other core information shown in the genome sequencing results further insight on this bacterium’s genetic elements for bacteriocin production and the genes related to respiratory chain. Complete genome sequence of opine-utilizing Variovorax sp. strain PAMC28711 isolated from an Antarctic lichen.

We report the complete genome sequence of Variovorax sp. strain PAMC28711 isolated from the Antarctic lichen Himantormia sp. Whole genome sequencing revealed opine oxidase- and octopine dehydrogenase-related gene clusters that are involved in octopine utilization. Complete genome sequence of a psychotrophic Arthrobacter strain A3 (CGMCC 1.8987), a novel long-chain hydrocarbons producer.

Arthrobacter strain A3, a psychotrophic bacterium isolated from the Tian Shan Mountain of China, can degrade the cellulose and synthesis the long-chain hydrocarbons efficiently in low temperature. Here we report the complete genome sequence of this bacterium. The complete genome sequence of Arthrobacter strain A3, consisting of a cycle chromosome with a size of 4.26 Mbp and a cycle plasmid with a size of 194kbp. In this genome, a hydrocarbon biosynthesis gene cluster (oleA, oleB/oleC and oleD) was identified. To resistant the extreme environment, this strain contains a unique mycothiol-biosynthetic pathway (mshA-D), which has not been found in other Arthrobacter species before. The availability of this genome sequence allows us to investigate the genetic basis of adaptation to growth in a nutrient-poor permafrost environment and to evaluate of the biofuel-synthetic potential of this species. Aeromicrobium erythreumNRRL B-3381 has a 3,629,239-bp circular genome that has 72% G+C content. There are at least 3,121 coding sequences (CDSs), two rRNA gene operons, and 47 tRNAs. Complete genome sequence of Lactobacillus plantarum ZJ95, a potential probiotic strain producing bacteriocins and B-group vitamin riboflavin.

Lactobacillus plantarum ZJ95 is a potential probiotic isolated from newborn infant fecal and it is identified to produce riboflavin with great antimicrobial activity. The complete genome sequence of this strain was reported in the present study. The genome contains a 3,261,418-bp chromosome and two plasmids. Genes, related to the biosynthesis of bacteriocins and riboflavin, were identified. This work will facilitate to reveal the biosynthetic mechanism of bacteriocins and B-group vitamins in lactic acid bacteria and provide evidence for its potential application in food industry. Complete genome sequence of the novel thermophilic polyhydroxyalkanoates producer Aneurinibacillus sp. XH2 isolated from Gudao oilfield in China.

Aneurinibacillus sp. XH2 (CGMCC 1.15535) was isolated from Gudao oilfield in China. It is able to use simple carbon resources to accumulate Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) in a thermophilic fashion. Here, we describe the genomic features of this strain. The total genome size of Aneurinibacillus sp. XH2 is 3,664,835bp and contains 3441 coding sequences and 114 tRNAs. Complete genome sequence of Streptomyces venezuelae ATCC 15439, producer of the methymycin/pikromycin family of macrolide antibiotics, using PacBio technology.

Here, we report the complete genome sequence of Streptomyces venezuelae ATCC 15439, a producer of the methymycin/pikromycin family of macrolide antibiotics and a model host for natural product studies, obtained exclusively using PacBio sequencing technology.
