Infection by and dissemination of NDM-5-producing Escherichia coli in China.

NDM-5, a variant with increased carbapenemase activity in com- parison with NDM-1, was first reported in China from an Escherichia coli strain followed by its report in the UK, India, Algeria and Japan. We report here the isolation of four NDM-5-positive E. coli strains responsible for various infections from four Chinese cities.
