What happens to my resume when I submit it to your database?
Our applicant tracking system sends you an automatic message confirming that we have received your resume. If there is a match, we will contact you for a phone interview. If that goes well, you will be invited to an in-person interview.
How do I apply for more than one job? Or, how do I apply for jobs in the future?
Do not create multiple accounts. Simply log in to your account and add the new jobs to your profile. This will automatically submit your application to the new job. If it has been a while since your previous application, take the time to upload your current resume, cover letter, and update any other changes to your account.
When should I expect to hear from you?
If there is a match and the manager has requested we contact you for an initial phone screen, you may hear from us within two weeks of your resume submission. We try to get back to everyone as quickly as possible. However, we sometimes receive hundreds of applicants for each job posting. We wish we had the bandwidth to respond quickly to every applicant, but time and volume prevent us from doing so. When we do fill the position, we always notify applicants that the position has been filled.
How should I dress for an interview?
We care about your technical skill set, experience, communication style, and cultural fit, not your wardrobe. But if you still want advice about clothes, business casual is usually a safe bet.
You will most likely have one or two phone interviews. If these go well, you will be invited for an in-person interview with someone from staffing, the hiring manager, some members of the team, and other stakeholders from across the company.
How many rounds of interviews do you usually have?
It depends on the job role and level. You may speak to as few as three interviewers, or more than ten people. We do our best to keep the interview team as small as possible.
However, just as finding the right company is important to you, hiring the right people for the right job is important to us. Thorough interviewing allows candidates to make informed career decisions. Our employees have longevity and thriving careers at PacBio because we spend a lot of effort on the front end of the hiring process to match great people with the right job.
We usually make decisions after one round of onsite interviews, but some roles may require more than one round.
I wasn’t chosen to interview or I didn’t get a job offer. Does this mean I’m just not right for PacBio?
No. It only means that after careful consideration, we decided that there wasn’t a strong match at the time. There are many PacBio employees with thriving careers who joined after interviewing for several different jobs before finding the right match.
