Attend Our Worldwide User Meetings & SMRT Informatics Developers Conference

If you’d like to hear about the latest applications of SMRT® Sequencing from users, we have several events coming up. Our worldwide user group meetings and workshops feature PacBio users sharing their latest research, tips, and protocols, as well as our staff providing training and updates on products and methods to optimize your research. We’re always humbled by the quality and variety of science presented at these meetings. And for the bioinformatics crowd, we have a new event in August focused on developing new analytical tools for PacBio® data.

Here’s more detail on each event, including registration details:

Americas East Coast UGM & Workshops
June 16 – 18
Baltimore, MD
Hosted by the Institute for Genome Sciences at the University of Maryland

Attendees at our day-long user meeting in Baltimore will also have the option to join a half-day bioinformatics workshop (June 16 or 18) and an afternoon sample prep workshop (June 16). The bioinformatics workshop will cover large genome assembly with FALCON and analysis for the Iso-Seq™ method, among other topics. Special guests Jon Badalamenti and Sergey Koren will host on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. The sample prep workshop will include talks on ultra-long DNA fragments, barcoding, targeted sequencing with solution-based capture, the Iso-Seq method, an intro to the SMRT Portal, and more.

Here are the confirmed speakers and topics for the user meeting (June 17):

Using long reads to improve a benchmark human Genome in a Bottle, Justin Zook, Ph.D., The National Institute of Standards and Technology

High quality full length 16s sequence: A case study in sino-nasal biogeography, Josh Earl, M.S., Drexel College of Medicine

SMRT Informatics Developers Conference
August 26
Gaithersburg, MD
Hosted by NIST, immediately prior to the Genome In A Bottle Workshop

The goal of the conference is to advance development of analytical tools for PacBio data by enabling in-person brainstorming and idea exchange among software developers and the bioinformatics community. Through facilitation of open discussion and collaboration, the event will nurture development of new and existing open source tools for de novo assembly, structural variations, methylation and Iso-Seq analysis.
Our agenda features a full day of collaborative discussions focused on developing and improving data analysis tools for PacBio SMRT Sequencing technology.
