David Botstein, Ph.D., is Chief Scientific Officer of Calico Life Sciences, LLC. He was the Anthony B. Evnin Professor of Genomics, Emeritus at Princeton University, where he also served as Director of the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative. From 1990 to 2003 he was Chairman of the Department of Genetics at Stanford University. From 1987 to 1990 he was Vice President for Science at Genentech and remained a member of its Science Resource Board until 2014. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine, and has received numerous awards for his achievements in science.

Dr. Botstein has made fundamental contributions to modern genetics, including the discovery of many yeast and bacterial genes and the establishment of key techniques that are commonly used today. In 1980, Botstein and three colleagues proposed a method for mapping genes that laid the groundwork for the Human Genome Project. Dr. Botstein holds a PhD in Human Genetics from the University of Michigan and an AB in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard.
