Pacific Biosciences acquires Circulomics to make long-read sequencing more accessible at scale

Our teams and technology enable a path toward end-to-end automated workflows

We are excited to announce the acquisition of Circulomics — a company that develops innovative products for nucleic acid sample preparation via high quality, high molecular weight (HMW) DNA extraction.

Nanobind HMW DNA extraction has been used alongside PacBio technology for years, allowing researchers to sequence common samples such as cells, bacteria, and blood as well as more challenging samples such as animal tissue, insects, fungi, and plants. Now, Circulomics is joining the PacBio team to further enable HiFi sequencing at scale.

HiFi sequencing begins with a sample — obtaining high  quality DNA is the foundation.
Nanobind disks protect DNA to generate longer reads across a broader range of sample types.
Together, we can build scalable solutions to make HiFi sequencing simple and accessible.

Frequently asked questions

  • We define high molecular weight (HMW) as big DNA in the 50–300 kb size range. This is the ideal size for standard long-read sequencing on either PacBio or other long-read providers. We usually lightly shear the DNA before library prep.
  • Some sample types may be slightly bigger or slightly smaller, but all Nanobind kits are designed to give consistent HMW DNA in this size range. They usually do not generate small DNA less than 25–50 kb in length

Starting with high quality, HMW genomic DNA produces HiFi libraries with better sequencing yield, longer read-lengths and higher read- quality than standard DNA. (ASHG 2020 Coriell poster #3520)

  • Nanobind HMW DNA Extraction Kits — Nanobind Kits extract high molecular weight (HMW = 50 kb–300+ kb) and ultra high molecular weight (UHMW = 50 kb–1+ Mb) DNA using a rapid bind, wash, and elute protocol. Nanobind Kits are compatible with manual or fully automated processing.
  • Short Read Eliminator Kits — Short Read Eliminator Kits enhance long-read sequencing read lengths by depleting short DNA. Kits use a simple, 1 hour, size selective precipitation method. Three versions are available for DNA of all quality from amplicons to high quality HMW DNA.

Circulomics products help protect DNA from shearing to generate longer reads across almost any sample type.

It remains business as usual for all Circulomics customers. We are committed to ongoing sales and support for all customers – regardless of genomics platform.

Circulomics CEO, Dr. Kelvin Liu
“Our scientists bend over backwards to help customers generate beautiful sequencing data. The goal has always been to enable customers to focus on science rather than stress over sample prep. Through the years of collaborating with PacBio, we know we share the same values and obsession with customer success.”
— Dr. Kelvin Liu, Founder & CEO, Circulomics
